Residents who need to repair customer-owned facilities, such as the meter base, weatherhead or point of attachment, should have this work performed by a professional electrical contractor. Learn more.

What You Are Responsible For...

The customer owns the service entrance equipment on their home or business. If this equipment is damaged, the customer is responsible for repairing it. Repairs to damaged service entrance equipment need to be made before power can be restored. See the illustration below for details.

The customer is responsible for removing and disposing of any fallen limbs and trees along with any other debris due to storm damage or Ameren Illinois power restoration efforts. Ameren Illinois storm restoration crews will trim and remove trees and branches only to the extent necessary to restore electrical service.

Ameren Illinois installs and maintains these component (see above diagram):

The service drop carries energy from the service line to your home or business.

The electric meter monitors how much energy you are using.

 

You are responsible for these components (see above diagram):

2.

The service bracket or pipe riser, which protects the connection point for the lines entering your home or business.

3.

The weatherhead, which keeps rain and other material out of the pipe riser.

4.

The pipe riser, which serves as a guide and protection for the lines entering the meter box.

5.

The meter box, which protects the connections to your electric meter.

Only a licensed electrician should ever attempt to work on these parts of your electrical system!
