Weather Update:

The current outlook for thunderstorms across Illinois calls for scattered thunderstorms to develop along a front draped from near Dubuque to Kankakee. This will be the primary focus for development, but there is already one multi-cell thunderstorm on-going in southern IL. All but that northeast section will be at risk of strong to severe storms. This activity will have the potential to become organized into multi-storm clusters in the evening. The main threat will likely be large hail and damaging winds up to 55-60mph. As the storms become more organized the threat for damaging wind will increase. The time frame for the highest chance for severe weather will be 7pm to 1am. The thunderstorm that is already up and running will continue east-southeast and may increase in intensity as it does.

Weather Update:

We are under the threat for severe storms to move across the state from the northwest to the northeast and then to the south throughout the remainder of the afternoon, evening, and overnight hours. The greatest risk for strong-to-severe storm development is for the northern portion of Ameren Illinois service territory.

Storms are expected to develop in the northwest part of the state after 3pm with storms continuing through the northeast part of the state through early this evening. This activity will be scattered to isolated in nature with thunderstorms mostly remaining north of I-80. Additional thunderstorms will be possible late this evening with chances affecting locations north of I-72. Storms this afternoon and this evening will have the potential of producing wind gusts to 55mph, large hail and frequent lightning. The threat for severe weather will diminish after 2-3 am as storms move into central portions of Illinois, but strong storms could reach as far south as I-70 by late tonight.

Weather Update:

The atmosphere is going to remain unstable through the day today, with a threat for some strong-to-severe storm development later today in areas of the state south of I-70.

The rain and embedded thunderstorms seen across central Illinois this morning will be ongoing through early afternoon, but will not produce any strong activity. With some surface heating this afternoon, additional scattered showers and thunderstorms may develop across Illinois. Best chances for storms will be along and south of I-70 after 4pm.

While no widespread areas of severe weather are expected, a few storms could be severe and contain large hail and damaging wind gusts to 60 mph. The limiting factor may be the extent of surface heating that takes place today, as clouds could impede warming. We are most confident in thunderstorm development south of I-64. The threat for any strong to severe thunderstorms will end by midnight-1AM.

Based on this weather forecast guidance, the Ameren Illinois continues at YELLOW weather alert status through today, tonight, and into tomorrow morning.
