Snow and Freezing Rain Predicted

There are two storm systems developing to our northwest that are forecasted to move across Illinois area later today, this evening and tomorrow. Accompanying the second storm is a threat of some ice accretion across the southern half of Ameren Illinois service territory.

We will continue to monitor conditions and the regional forecast as this storm develops and we’ll send additional information as it may be warranted.

Weather Updates:

Jan 19th, first storm

A clipper system today will be all snow across central Illinois with this moving east of the state by the mid afternoon hours. Snow of 0.5-2 inches are possible along and north of I-70 with under 0.5 inch south of there today.

Jan 20th, second storm

Then the next system moves into the state tomorrow morning after 7am generally along and north of a line from Macomb to Bloomington through much of the day as snow but late in the afternoon say after around 3-4pm, mixed precipitation develops south of that area from eastern Missouri into the southern half of Illinois. To start it looks like plain rain along and south of I-64 with a thin area of freezing rain from I-64 to I-70 and then sleet and snow to the north of that and this continues into much of the evening. As this pulls away the ice/snow line will shift southeastward after midnight tomorrow night before it all ends before daybreak Saturday. Icing looks to be around 0.05 inch or less. Snow and sleet looks to come in around 1 inch or less south of I-72. Heavier snows will be to the north of there at 4-8 inches north of a Macomb to Bloomington line. Winds on Friday will be out of the east to northeast at 7-14 mph with gusts generally under 20 mph and these will turn out of the north at night.
