High Risk for Freezing Rain
Ameren Illinois' Emergency Operations Center staff will continue to monitor prevailing conditions and changes in the short-term forecast throughout the day. According to meteorological data, the highest risk for icing will occur from roughly 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. General amounts in the area of 0.10" to 0.25" are expected, but isolated higher spots may approach 0.40" today. The greatest threat is predicted to be the areas south of I-74 and north of 136 west of Peoria. Areas to the south should warm up and turn over to rain during the midday hours, thus limiting ice amounts. Meteorological data also suggests that winds may pick up this afternoon, with gusts in the 20-25 mph range. Ameren Illinois is prepared to take appropriate action - should it become necessary. On a personal note, take time to prepare for severe weather and make safety your first prority.
