06/18/2009 - Storms knock out power in Knoxville
By John David, WQAD
KNOXVILLE, Illinois - Late Thursday afternoon, nearly two-third of the Ameren customers in Knoxville remained without power. That's after strong storms raced across western and central Illinois, knocking out power, at one time, to more than 42,000 Ameren customers.
A familiar buzzing leads the way to Knoxville's Main Street. The early morning storms sent a maple tree crashing on top of Mark Boyer's roof. Boyer, who also serves as a township road commissioner, wasn't spared.
"We woke up because we heard the limb hit the house," he recalled. "We hoped it wouldn't go through the roof. Luckily, it didn't."
