Ameren is reporting power outages were heaviest in the Peoria area and west toward Galesburg where several thousand people were without electricity. As of 11:30 a.m., there were about 25,500 central Illinois customers still without power and about 6,300 in the immediate Peoria area.
At the peak of the outage, there were about 40,000 customers without electricity in central Illinois, AmerenCILCO spokesman Neal Johnson said.
