06/09/2009 - 13:30 - Power Now Restored to Majority of Customers Affected by Monday's Storms
Customers Still Without Power Urged to Call
Power has been restored to most of the customers in the Metro East and Southern Illinois areas following the Monday evening tornadoes and high winds. Ameren Illinois Utility workers quickly assessed the damage and began making repairs to restore electric service safely. Additional resources were brought in from other parts of the Company. As of 1:30 PM today, there were 427 customers out in Perry County (most in DuQuoin); 282 in St. Clair County; and 43 in Williamson County. We expect to have power restored to the majority of these customers by sundown this evening.
Customers still without power should call their utility. AmerenCIPS at 1-888-789-2477 or AmerenIP at 1-800-755-5000.
Safety continues to be the first priority for our workers and customers. As clean up of debris begins, customers are urged to be aware of their surroundings. They should stay away from downed or low hanging power lines, assume all wires are energized ("hot") and be alert to the possibility that tree limbs or debris may hide an electrical hazard. Customers can report potential hazards at the numbers listed above.
