06/09/09 - 19:00 - AIU Restores Power to Nearly 12,000 Overnight

Outages Due to Tornadoes & High Winds

Due to several tornadoes and high winds Monday evening, AIU co-workers and outside contractors worked throughout the night to restore power to homes and business in the Metro East area and Southern Illinois. At one point, more than 15,000 were without power. As of 7 a.m., there are 1,200 customers in Perry County, 432 in St. Clair County and 1,442 in Williamson County, plus a few in surrounding counties.

Safety must continue to be the first priority for workers and customers. Stay away from any downed power line. Assume it is live or hot.
