Operations on Yellow Alert
There is a risk of 20-30% for severe storm development in areas north of I-64, beginning this afternoon. The threat of severe weather will be with us from that point into the overnight hours as the system moves through the southern portions of the state, although it appears that the risk of severe weather may lessen this evening after sunset.
Some of the storms will likely be severe with the main threats being large hail and strong winds of 55-65 mph with a very isolated tornado also possible. The highest probabilities of seeing severe storms will be between I-80 and I-64 with chances in this corridor being around 20-30 percent at any one spot. South of I-64 the threat of seeing severe weather tonight will only be around 5-10 percent.
